By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Discuss their experiences of implementing peer instruction into the classroom from multiple disciplines;
- Share their views and practices of applying peer assessment in the classroom, based on some preliminary trials.
|
Abstract: |
The primary goals of peer instruction are to encourage and foster student interaction and engagement during lectures, while focusing students’ attention on underlying concepts and techniques. This workshop is a follow-up to Professor Eric Mazur’s talks on the techniques of peer instruction and assessment we learned from him back in December 2013. This workshop presents an ideal opportunity for faculty members to contribute experiences implementing peer instruction in the classroom from multiple disciplines and to subsequently share their views and practices based on some preliminary trials.
If you missed Professor Eric Mazur’s seminars/workshop as part of our TALES series back in December 2013, or would be interested in a summary of the content of his series of talks, the following slides and videos are available for your review: “Assessment – the Silent Killer of Learning,” “Engaging Students One-on-one, All at Once” and “Educating the Innovators of the 21st Century“. |
