Using iQlickers for Effective Peer Instruction |
Facilitator/s: |
Dr Gloria LEE (TRAN)
Mr Leo YU (LC) |
Abstract: |
Do you want to learn how to use student response systems such as iQlickers effectively to engage students and improve their learning? Or, are you new to student response systems – and how peer instruction can work in your classroom? This workshop is a follow-up to Professor Eric Mazur’s talks on the techniques of peer instruction we learned from him back in December 2013. In this hands-on workshop you will learn the essentials of peer instruction using iQlickers in the classroom, the benefits of this tool, how to implement it effectively and how to write effective clicker questions that hit various levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, engaging students, sparking their curiosity and subsequently helping them to learn more effectively. |

Facilitator/s: |
Professor Kathleen AHRENS (LC)
Dr Elizabeth BANKOWSKI (LC)
Dr W L KWOK (REL) |
Abstract: |
Turnitin is a web-based plagiarism prevention tool that can be accessed within a Blackboard course to deter plagiarism. A Turnitin Assignment can be created in Blackboard allowing students to submit their work for automatic scanning. Any instructor on the course can then view the results and check the reports for signs of plagiarism. This session will provide participants with knowledge of Turnitin, how to use it appropriately and how to use it as part of their teaching, learning and assessment strategy when teaching courses. Participants will learn the basics of how to use Turnitin including creating an assignment and accessing the originality report. |
