About the Symposium

As part of the activities to honour good teachers and highlight teaching excellence at HKBU, a one-day symposium titled “Teaching Excellence@HKBU - An Arc from Past to Present to Future” will be held on 24 May 2012 to provide a platform for academic colleagues of different disciplines to share experience in teaching and learning. Since assessment is the most pertinent teaching and learning issue at HKBU at present, a keynote speaker will be invited to talk about assessment in the symposium.

With the enactment of the 4-year curriculum and arrival of the double cohort in September 2012, all colleagues in our local tertiary institutions are very busy with various preparation works for this education reform. This symposium hence, will also provide our colleagues an opportunity to share and showcase how well prepared we are to receive the double cohort. We, at HKBU, are indeed ready for 334!

Specifically, at the end of this symposium, participants should be able to:

  • identify from the keynote speech at least one technique in assessment for further exploration (Awareness);
  • select an individual favourite innovations in teaching and learning from the sharing of colleagues and explain the reason for the selection (Analysis);
  • plan to adopt/pilot a teaching and learning innovation or an assessment technique in the ensuing semester (Moving forward).
