Introduction

In view of the overwhelming support to the Funding Scheme in the last triennium, the UGC launches another round of the Scheme in the 2016-19 triennium. The objective of the Funding Scheme is to incentivise universities in exploring and developing further in the sector-wide strategic areas of teaching and learning, language enhancement and internationalisation.

Internal Review Process and Timeframe

The University will carry out an internal review for all proposals to be submitted to the UGC, adopting the UGC’s selection criteria (review proforma to be completed by our reviewers is given here). This process is intended to be formative in nature, and its objective is to strengthen colleagues’ worthwhile proposals for submission to the UGC so that they can stand a better chance of attracting the funding. The timeframe is as follows:

Action(s) Timeline
Call for proposals Mid July 2016
Deadline for submitting a statement of intent 17 August 2016
HKBU’s deadline for proposals 24 October 2016

Statement of Intent (SoI) (due by 17 August 2016)

To facilitate coordination within the University, interested colleagues are invited to submit a statement of intent to the Teaching and Learning Policy Committee (TLPC) via its Secretary (Dr Eva Wong, email: evawong@hkbu.edu.hk) before 17 August 2016 before preparing a full proposal. The statement is expected to be one A4 page in length, and include a synopsis containing a tentative project title, brief description of the project, and likely collaborating institutions. This statement should be provided irrespective of whether HKBU is the lead institution for the project. In preparing the statement, colleagues are strongly recommended to go through the “Guidance Notes on Funding Scheme for Teaching and Learning Related Proposals in the 2016-19 Triennium”, particularly Sections A to E.

A proforma for the statement of intent is obtained through: http://chtl.hkbu.edu.hk/documents/ugctlfund/UGC-TLFund-StatementOfIntent-2016.docx

Please note the SoI submission is NOT a prerequisite for the full proposal submission to the University in October 2016. Along the same vein, the SoI submission is NOT meant to be binding that the colleague(s) involved must submit a full proposal. The purpose of the SoI is for internal coordination and facilitation of colleagues’ preparation for full proposals. Colleagues who miss the SoI deadline are invited to inform the TLPC of their intent as early as possible. Most importantly, full proposals must be submitted by 24 October 2016.
