Workshop I - Enhancing Blended and Flipped Learning Through Panopto

Abstract:

Panopto is an online video platform that is designed to help teachers and content creators master video capture, video management, and interactive video learning. This session will guide participants through Panopto’s key features, including recording, editing videos, embedding quizzes, and analysing viewer engagement, to enhance teaching and learning experiences.

Whether you're new to Panopto or looking to maximise its potential, this workshop will equip you with the skills to produce, manage, and share high-impact video content effectively.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Create video content in Panopto’s platform
  • Utilise advanced features like smart search, in-video quizzes, and discussion tools
  • Apply Panopto for flipped classrooms, blended learning and enhance student engagement
  • Facilitate student video-based assignments using Panopto’s submission features

Abstract:

To facilitate your teaching and enhance student learning, it is useful for teachers to get familiar with the fundamental functions available in Moodle. The adoption of the Learning Management System (LMS) aligns with the University’s commitment to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning.

This workshop will provide participants with an overview of Moodle’s basic functions, including how to setup a courseroom and customise various learning activities.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Identify basic functions available in Moodle;
  • Use the features of Moodle to enhance teacher teaching and student learning.
Workshop III - Providing Evidence-based Feedback and Supporting Academic Integrity with Gradescope and Turnitin

Abstract:

This workshop introduces teachers to Gradescope and Turnitin, two platforms designed to support effective and efficient assessment practices in higher education. Gradescope streamlines grading through batch evaluation, enabling consistent marking and timely feedback. Turnitin promotes academic integrity and supports meaningful feedback through its Feedback Studio.

Participants will learn practical strategies for integrating Turnitin to promote ethical writing and authentic assessment, as well as how to use Gradescope’s grading features to reduce administrative workload and deliver timely formative feedback. This session will also include sharing of best practices from experienced instructors.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to apply Gradescope and Turnitin to improve assessment workflows and strengthen feedback and academic integrity in teaching practices.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Use Gradescope to streamline grading workflows and deliver consistent, timely feedback to students;
  • Apply Turnitin’s features to support academic integrity with constructive feedback on student work.

To facilitate your data collection from creating surveys, it is useful for teachers to get familiar with Qualtrics, an online survey tool available at HKBU to support T&L and research. In this workshop, you will learn how to create and administer surveys using various question types such as:

  • Survey design and creation from Standard to Advanced Question Types
  • Survey Sharing and Collaboration
  • Logic and Survey Flows
  • Dashboard Reports
  • Survey Distribution Options
  • Experience sharing on using Qualtrics for facilitating teaching and learning

Workshop VI - Conducting Interactive Classes with Mentimeter

Mentimeter is designed to help teachers and presenters create engaging, real-time polls, quizzes, and interactive presentations. This session will provide a step-by-step guide on setting up Mentimeter, designing dynamic slides, and utilising its key features, such as live word clouds, Q&A sessions, and audience feedback tools, to enhance participation and learning outcomes. Participants will have the opportunity to practice building their own interactive presentations and explore best practices for fostering active learning in both physical and virtual classrooms. This workshop will equip you with practical strategies to make your teaching more collaborative and impactful.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Identify functions of Mentimeter for conducting interactive classes;
  • Apply Mentimeter’s features for creating presentations/projects.
