Role-play pedagogy has been shown to be effective in reaching learning outcomes. In this session participants will experience a process drama which is one of the experiential-learning strategies in pedagogy. This form of enactment involves using the body to explore real life issues, questions and perspectives. A scenario based on true stories in HK will be presented to participants in which they are invited to take different roles and experience the emotions and challenges that the characters are facing. Both the participants and the facilitator will work in and out of role to reflect on the scenario and in real life. By walking in the shoes of the characters, participants will develop empathy holistically with an embodied mind. Participants will also learn to respect each other’s point of view expressed in the process of the drama.
The facilitator will also share how process drama has been successfully adopted in her teaching with very positive learning outcomes and student feedback. Participants will also explore new dimensions of teaching and discover how process drama can enrich diverse disciplines.
To explore various Academic Support Units at HKBU for the purpose of improving teaching and learning, and to gather valuable insights from experienced teachers. New academic and teaching staff are expected to participate in the one-day Faculty Development Day, which offers valuable resources, networking opportunities and the chance to cultivate a positive teaching and learning environment while promoting professional growth.

This workshop equips academics with the skills to implement student-centred learning rubrics effectively. Grounded in robust research, it explores the theory and practical applications of rubrics. Participants will learn to create and use self-assessment rubrics, covering both analytic and holistic approaches. We will discuss best practices and hands-on activities, where attendees will first see the self-assessment rubrics recently developed for use at HKBU. The session addresses implementation challenges and shares strategies, drawing on real-world examples and participant experiences. Ideal for educators aiming to enhance assessment practices and support reflective, autonomous learners.
