Using Moodle Basics & Plagiarism Detection

Abstract:

To facilitate your teaching and enhance student learning, it is useful for teachers to get familiar with the fundamental functions available in Moodle. The adoption of Learning Management System (LMS) is in line with the University’s vision to promote quality teaching and learning through different endeavours.

This workshop will provide participants with an overview of the basic functions available in Moodle and setting up an online plagiarism detection service, Turnitin. Guidance on preparing a courseroom and tailoring various activities, together with know-how to manage the Turnitin setting for essay assignment via Moodle will be covered.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  1. Identify basic functions available in Moodle;
  2. Use basic functions in Moodle on enhancing teaching and student learning;
  3. Manage online essay assignment by using Turnitin via Moodle.

Are you new to Mentimeter? Mentimter is an interactive presentation tool that helps to engage students and enables every voice in a classroom or lecture theatre to be heard. In this online workshop, Ms Miyo Huang from Mentimeter will guide you through a step-by-step approach to start hosting your interactive presentations and get familiar with the basic functions of Mentimeter as listed below.

  • How and when to use Mentimeter
  • How to create and edit your own presentations
  • How and when to use the different question types
  • Tips and tricks for creating a successful first presentation

Abstract:

With the increasing demand of using online/authentic assessment(s), it is useful for teachers to get familiar with setting and grading assignment in Moodle to provide online feedback. In addition, group works and group projects are being widely adopted as part of the learning activity at the University, it is useful to know how the use of grouping functions available in Moodle to facilitate group activities and group assignments.

This workshop will provide participants with a more in-depth usage of Moodle activities, like grading assignment with rubric, forming a group for group assignment/discussion, setting Moodle quiz (MCQ and Short quiz) and ways of tracking students’ performance will also be covered.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  1. Describe Moodle functions for setting and grading assignments;
  2. Use Moodle functions for different kind of assessments.

QuestionPro enables faculty, staff and students to create and conduct unlimited surveys for university-related academic or administrative purposes. The tool offers a range of features to create web forms, conduct offline research studies, collect and analyze data, and more. It supports in-depth analysis and allows data to be exported.
In this online workshop, colleagues from QuestionPro will demonstrate on Survey Design and Creation from Standard to Advanced Question Types such as:

QuestionPro supports various ways to distribute surveys. You can send surveys using Email and SMS. The Email editor is an HTML compatible editor which allows users to customize the entire email template with Images, embedding questions on the email, and also using data variables like First Name, Last Name etc from a respondent list. In this online workshop, colleagues from QuestionPro will demonstrate the following survey distribution methods and the LivePoll App:

QuestionPro provides a real-time dashboard for your survey. As soon as you start collecting responses, real-time data with analysis is available on the survey dashboard.
Also we can seamlessly migrate all Surveys and Data from Qualtrics to QuestionPro with the Qualtrics Migration Tool. In this online workshop, colleagues from QuestionPro will walk us through the following topics:
