Dr Kim KOH
Professor
Werklund School of Education, Specialization, Learning Sciences
The University of Calgary
Canada
Kim KOH (許金鳳), PhD, is a full professor in educational assessment and serves as the Chair of Educational Studies in the Learning Sciences at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary in Canada. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in assessment and research methodology. Additionally, she has supervised 12 doctoral students to successful completion. Kim has conducted numerous workshops on authentic assessment task design and rubric development in Singapore, Canada, and the Philippines. Her research program in building preservice and inservice teachers’ capacity in the design of mathematics and integrated STEM authentic assessments to promote equitable learning opportunities for all students is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada and Alberta Education. Kim has successfully completed numerous SoTL projects which include improving preservice teachers’ assessment literacy through problem-based learning and understanding undergraduate students’ and instructors’ perceptions of and experiences with exemplars.
Authentic assessment plays a pivotal role in measuring students’ academic and non-academic outcomes. More importantly, well-designed authentic assessment tasks and associated rubrics can be seamlessly integrated into teachers’ instructional and assessment practices to promote students’ interest and engagement. In the webinar, the presenter will begin with an introduction to the concept of authentic assessment and its meaningful connection to formative assessment and problem-based learning to enhance students’ learning in higher education institutions. It will then be followed by a discussion of the design principles for authentic assessment and the criteria for judging and determining the authentic intellectual quality of assessment tasks. Examples of authentic assessment tasks and rubrics from research and teaching will also be shared. At the end of the session, the presenter will provide recommendations for improving instructors’ assessment literacy, in particular authentic assessment task design and implementation. Audience members will then be invited to share their perspectives.

Prof Paul LAM, from the Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research at CUHK, is the principal supervisor for several pioneering AI projects, including "AI in Education" and "Generative AI for Teaching and Education". These projects aim to disseminate knowledge on how AI can empower educators and students by enhancing teaching and learning experiences. In addition, he has extensive interest and experience in teaching and learning principles, case-based teaching and learning, web-assisted teaching and learning, and evaluation of elearning and mlearning. He also has experience in designing educational tools, such as uReply (http://web.ureply.mobi), a classroom student response system developed under his supervision.
In the swiftly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, the educational sector stands at the forefront of cultivating a generation equipped to handle AI with responsibility and ethical insight. The seminar "Shaping Digital Minds" seeks to address these challenges directly through the lens of classroom integration and teacher development. Our first speaker will explore essential considerations for educators integrating GenAI into classrooms and assessments, and strategies to rapport and cultivate digital literacy and ethics in classrooms. The second talk invites participants to map the shifting nature of ‘truthiness’ in our classrooms, introduces the strategy of ‘reparative readings’, and discusses how to develop critical relationships with these emerging technologies. The final presentation highlights how teacher training is adapting to prepare teachers not just to use technology, but to innovate pedagogically, ensuring that AI enhances educational outcomes. This seminar aims to provide educators with valuable strategies and insights to responsibly shape the digital minds of the next generation.
