Abstract:

Webex is not only a meeting platform these days, a number of new features have been added to the latest version. With newly announced embedded apps in Webex such as Slido, Miro, etc., you can use them to interact with your students for in-class/online teaching and learning activities. Using Slido in Webex and Miro will help you create real-time engagement with students. You can use Slido and Miro for activities like ice-breaking, trust building, instant feedback etc. to create effective learning experience for your students in a fun environment.

In this online workshop, colleagues from Cisco will demonstrate on the use of these embedded apps to boost student engagement in face-to-face/online/hybrid classroom.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

1. Identify basic functions available in Slido and Miro for interactive activities;
2. Use Slido and Miro to engage your students in classes/groups.

Abstract:

To facilitate your teaching and enhance student learning, it is useful for teachers to get familiar with the fundamental functions available in Moodle. The adoption of Learning Management System (LMS) is in line with the University’s vision to promote quality teaching and learning through different endeavours.

This online workshop will provide participants with an overview of the basic functions available in Moodle and setting up an Internet-based plagiarism detection service, Turnitin. Guidance on preparing a courseroom and tailoring various activities, together with know-how to manage the Turnitin setting for essay assignment via Moodle will be covered.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

1. Identify basic functions available in Moodle;
2. Use basic functions in Moodle on enhancing teaching and student learning;
3. Manage online essay assignment by using Turnitin via Moodle.

Abstract:

With the increasing demand of using online/authentic assessment(s), it is useful for teachers to get familiar with setting and grading assignment in Moodle to provide online feedback. In addition, group work and group projects are being widely adopted as part of the learning activity at the University; it is useful to know how the use of grouping functions available in Moodle to facilitate group activities and group assignments.

This online workshop will provide participants with a more in-depth usage of Moodle activities, like grading assignment with rubric, forming a group for group assignment/discussion, setting Moodle quiz (MCQ and Short quiz) and ways of tracking students’ performance will also be covered.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

1. Describe Moodle functions for setting and grading assignments;
2. Use Moodle functions for different kind of assessments.

Abstract:

In this hands-on workshop, you will build upon the skills developed in the previous basic and intermediate workshops, and learn how to maximize the interactive learning capabilities available in Moodle. We are happy to have invited Dr George Tsz-Kwan LAM, Associate Professor from the Department of Music to showcase different ways of incorporating the Lesson activity, Activity Completion and Access Restrictions, and the Badges tool to bring elements of gamified learning into your course.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

1. Create a simple, formative Lesson activity that tracks time-on-task and assess student understanding with different question types;
2. Apply Activity Completion and Access Restrictions to create sequential items and topics that promote self-directed learning throughout your course; and
3. Apply Badges to your course in order to increase engagement and encourage activity completion in a timely manner.

At the end of the session, colleagues are invited to share their own Moodle best practices, as well as other lesser-known tools, tips, and tricks in Moodle.
