With many uncertainties ahead of us, some students may or may not be able to come back to the campus to attend classes. A mixed mode of face-to-face and online teaching may become predominant in the new academic year. We are delighted to have invited our Teaching Award Winners 2020 to showcase their recent experience of preparing and conducting ‘mixed mode teaching’ (i.e. some students attend the class in person together with some attending online) with the use of ZOOM to engage students in interactive activities and to assess student learning performance.
In addition, colleagues from the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning (CHTL) will introduce you a joint project between HKBU and EduHK under an initiative of the “Academic Study Institute” (ASI) for the promotion of alternative assessment(s) when teaching online.
In this session, you will be inspired with some practical tips on conducting ‘mixed-mode teaching’ with ZOOM and the good use of alternative assessment(s) to facilitate your online teaching and assessment in the days ahead.

A mixed mode of face-to-face and online teaching may become predominant in the new academic year. We are delighted to have invited one of our Teaching Award Winners 2020, Dr Archimedes Guerra from the Department of Marketing to showcase his recent experience of conducting ‘mixed mode teaching’ (i.e. some students attend the class in person together with some attending online) with the use of ZOOM to engage students in interactive activities and to assess student learning performance. Dr Guerra will showcase the different devices he used in a mixed-mode teaching environment with a variety of e-tools to engage both sets of students online and physically inside the classroom. He will also share the alternative assessment methods designed for assessing student learning performance online.
In this session, you will be inspired with some practical tips on conducting ‘mixed-mode teaching’ with ZOOM and different e-tools, together with the use of alternative assessment method(s) to facilitate your online teaching and assessment in the days ahead.

The University deploys both Echo360 and Mirroring360 as centrally supported e-tools. This workshop will introduce the use of these tools and its related pedagogical features.
As an Active Learning Platform, “Echo360” promotes student engagement in classrooms and online courses. Other platform features including but not limited to classroom video captures, engagement and analytics tools etc, help turn classrooms and events into collaborative communities of learning, such as real time polling and quizzing. Meanwhile, the use of “Mirroring360” to facilitate classroom presentation. By using Mirroring360 to wirelessly mirror and record your Chromebook, iPad, iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac screens to your PC or Mac without the need for hardware or cables. You can also share your screen to students’ computers or mobile devices. You will learn how to improve your course delivery and/or identify students’ learning needs more effectively in the workshop.
